North China Institute of Science and Technology (NCIST) is accountable to the State Administration of Work Safety. Based on the work of its predecessor, Beijing Coal Management Institute (set up by the former Ministry of Coal Industry in 1984), it was reorganized as North China Mining College in 1993. In 1997 the College was assessed and evaluated by the former State Education Commission as one of the 27 demonstrative and key construction engineering colleges in China. By the year of 2002, another milestone was reached in the development of the college！an upgrading to an undergraduate institute, which was renamed as North China Institute of Science and Technology. In the year of 2011, NCIST was qualified to admit postgraduate students in the field of engineering (Safety Engineering).
